The band’s last full length, 2011′s Luciferian Frequencies, saw the band turning away from their raw and frenetic style for a more mature and nuanced album. Formed by Nocturnus Horrendus in 1998, Corpus Christii has consistently released solid material over the years, enough so that the band has become one of Portugal’s most recognizable and most respected black metal acts. PaleMoon marks Corpus Christii’s first album in four years and their seventh full length overall. This could be liked by many black metal fans, it just didn't appeal too much to me, and I just had a hard time getting into it. If you're gonna give this record a listen, I suggest starting with that one before giving the album a full purchase. It also has a more crushing, evil tone to it. One track that stands out a little more than the others is "Night Of Flaming Hatred", because there's a little more variation and doesn't bore me like some of the others do. They're also rather anger driven, as if Kreator were featured in here too. They sound very similar to that of Darkthrone but a little more comprehensible.

The output is messy and somewhat monotone, and although it certainly displays talent, there isn't a whole lot that stands out. Same can be said about the vocals, as they are dark and add to the atmosphere, there's not too much more to them. In fact, there's not a whole lot of solo work at all. There's not a whole lot of variation, especially with the solos. Yes it's fast, yes it's heavy and ear splitting, but it's not spectacular. The guitar is good, but it doesn't sound much different than something that has been done many times on early black metal albums. Although it makes for a nice touch for a black metal band, there isn't a whole lot else that stands out. They roll on at an extreme speed creating a noisy atmosphere, and a misty thickness to back the guitars that use tremolo picking for a lot of the songs. This would strike the interests of fans of Darkthrone, Marduk, and other such black metal acts with an ambient sound with dark, hissy atmospheres.įrom start to finish, this is a record packed full of blast beats and rainy production, mostly thanks to the drums. This was not a terrible album, it certainly has its substance and a lot of people could enjoy this, however it really wasn't the greatest thing I've ever listened to. Needless to say I was somewhat disappointed. PaleMoon was the first album by them that I decided to give a try, and the album artwork really caught my eye at first glance. Corpus Christii is a black metal act that formed in the late '90s, hailing from Portugal, with a very ambient touch to them.
